Our Mares

The Brown family has bred horses for their own personal use on the ranch for generations. The horses are mostly a mixed lot of Morgan, Arabian, and Thoroughbred, but the priority has been on choosing horses with athletic ability and sensible minds rather than for specific breed. Through decades of selective breeding, we've put together a small herd of mares that consistently produce good-looking horses that can travel all day in rough country and still get a job done at the end of the day. They are a pleasure to train and ride. Our mares are all saddle-broke before being used for breeding to ensure they possess the qualities we would like to see passed on to future generations. These mares can handle an 1,800-pound bull at the end of a rope, drag calves to the branding fire all day, or take the kids out on a pleasure ride.   The addition of Cleveland Bay into these time-tested mares has added size and substance, while keeping their athletic ability and good nature.
The introduction of Cleveland Bay into our herd has given rise to a new goal- helping to preserve this multi-talented breed.   We have begun to add pure mares to our herd whenever possible.   We have also set our sights on working toward breeding mares suitable for the grading register.
